Excel 2016 – “We didn’t find anything to print.”

Error message: “We didn’t find anything to print.”

Symptoms and Testing:

  • Opened an Excel document we use as a template from SharePoint and saved it as a new document.
  • Tried to print the new document and received the message “We didn’t find anything to print.” in the print preview pane.
  • Tried to print the original template and received the same message.
  • Tried from a different computer and could print both versions without issue!

Resolution:

Clearing the Print Area.

  1. Open the problem Excel document.
  2. Select the Page Layout tab and click on the Print Area drop down.

printarea

3. Select “Clear Print Area”

clear

4. Print!

This seems to have fixed it for all files created from the template.

  1. This did not work for me, however when I highlighted the document, set the print area and told it to print, it printed it. SMH

  2. Hi, none of the above worked from me but I found that 10 of the 12 worksheets were set in Page Layout rather than Normal mode (under “View”). I changed them all to “Normal” and now works fine.

  3. Ross, thank you so much, I’ve been stuck with this problem for 2 days. I don’t usually comment on things like this, but you saved me a lot of time and frustration!!!

  4. This didnt work for me . Everthing was printing pefectly fine yesterday . It has new print area shown and will print to PDF . It just refuses to print to Printer

  5. 10/29/20. None of the suggestions above worked for me. I was trying to print from someone else’s spreadsheet that was “Read-only”. I am still somewhat of a beginner and couldn’t get the spreadsheet to print. So I hit the “Save as” and renamed it “Copy of xxxxx” . Then I was able to print. That might be obvious to most of you, but I was lost…haveagreatday..Drake
